Privacy policy
Marea Consulting (ABN 98815590513) is operated by Andrés López-Varela in New South Wales, Australia. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why and how we handle it. It’s deliberately short because our data practices are simple.
What information we collect and how we use it
We collect personal information you give us directly such as your name, email, organisation and anything you include when you contact us or engage us for work. During client engagements we may also handle information inside your systems, such as analytics or customer platforms, for the purpose of the work. Our website collects standard analytics data such as pages visited and device type.
We use your information to respond to enquiries, deliver our services, and run and improve our website. We don't sell personal information, rent lists or use your information for advertising to third parties.
AI and your information
Where AI tools are involved in our work, our AI use statement applies. In short: no confidential client information goes into consumer or public AI services and client information is never used to train any model.
Storage and security of your information
We take reasonable steps to keep personal information secure, including access controls and multi-factor authentication and we keep it only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required for legal, tax and insurance reasons.
We use reputable service providers to run the business, including website hosting, email, file storage, newsletter delivery and accounting tools. Some of these providers store data outside Australia, typically in the United States. We choose providers with strong security practices and use them on commercial terms.
Your choices
You can contact us to ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it, and we’ll respond within a reasonable timeframe. Our newsletter (Random Acts of Marketing) runs on Substack, which handles subscriber information under its own privacy policy; you can unsubscribe via any email.
If you have a concern about how we’ve handled your information, contact us first and we’ll try to resolve it in good faith. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. We handle personal information in line with the principles of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
